GREENVILLE. Come one, come all to the Grand Re-Opening Celebration of the Red Cross Beach on Saturday, June 20, at 1pm! Everyone is invited to see the amazing enhancements made over the last three years to this community treasure located near the Greenville town center at 303 Pritham Avenue.
The Red Cross Beach, so named from a long-ago water safety program established by the American Red Cross, opened in 1939 and offered swimming programs each summer. Parks and recreation have long been a part of Greenville’s Comprehensive Plan guiding municipal development, and maximizing the use of the six-acre public recreational area became a top priority.
What will you see and hear when you come to the Celebration? Town and State staff, volunteers and donors will acknowledge this community wide effort as well as the park designer, construction crews, Recreation Committee, and multiple partners who made this revitalization dream a reality.
First, members of the Moosehead Outdoor Alliance and the New England Mountain Bike Association will showcase the mountain biking skills course and recognize the donors who made this new and exciting recreational experience possible for adults and children of all ages.
Then, Town staff and volunteers will highlight additional new recreational features, including an activity center, three interconnected walking trails, a children’s playground, two picnic pavilions, and portable bathrooms. And, last but not least, everyone will appreciate the improvements at the beach, including redistribution of rocks and installation of a stone wall for shoreline stabilization.
The Celebration will conclude with some surprise fun outdoor activities and refreshments. Bring your bicycle, your walking shoes, and your swimsuit!
Finally, please note that, given the expected number of people attending the celebration, parking at the site will be limited to handicapped parking only. Others will need to drop off family members at the entrance and then park along Pritham Avenue or at the Greenville School.
