Shirley’s Dove Tail Bats Inc supplies baseball bats to fifteen major league teams as well as to American collegiate programs and clubs in Italy, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico.
Dove Tail gained prominence when several Kansas City Royals players used Dove Tail bats during the Royals’ World Series-winning season in 2014. Under owners Paul and Theresa Lancisi, the company since 2007 has grown from two employees to fifteen by mid-2024. Paul personally designed some of the machinery at the manufacturing plant. Dove Tail engages in substantial research and design for its dozens of sizes and finishes for its bats, often employing mathematical formulas in the design work. In 2023 Dove Tail also started using remote scanning technology so that it could copy an existing bat distant from Maine, and then produce and ship it promptly.
The company uses yellow birch wood for its products and uses all of the trees harvested: scrap wood generated in the production process is sold locally for firewood and local farms use the sawdust.
