Joy and Tim moved to Maine to set up Turning Page Farm in 2016 after living and working in Germany for eight years. Climbing the corporate ladder and spending all their time on planes had them wishing for a quieter life on the ground. They dreamed of Turning the Page and doing something completely different with their lives, and a farm in Maine was the perfect place to begin. They started out raising goats and making cheese and soap and then expanded to add pigs and as well as starting a micro-brewery that now sells in the Moosehead region as well as in Bangor sixty miles to the south. They hired a year round person for the kitchen and hire seasonal workers as needed. Turning Page now opens weekend afternoons Sat-Sun 12-6 year round for people to enjoy a micro-brew and the farm’s cheese and sausage offerings, often with live music.
Going forward, Joy and Tim will expand their offerings, including more cheeses and introducing herbs, teas and chaga. They rotate the micro-brewery’s beer selections with 6 beers on tap. Their beers can be found in cans in many local retail shops. They are among the Maine Brewers’ Guild Beer Trail recommended stops and Turning Page draws customers from nearby Greenville, thirteen miles to the north. They love living in Monson because of the tight knit community in a beautiful setting, but also to be part of grassroots economic development happening in the town.
